UK Food Agency Chief Urges People To Ban Cakes From Offices
Timothy Roberts
Although this is a common practice, there are some who are not in favor of it. This includes the UK Food standards agency chairwoman, Prof. Susan Jebb. In speaking with The Times, she said that we often undervalue the impact of the environment when making our choices.

She compared it to the fact that smoking has been banned in the workplace. Although Jebb did say that there was a different impact, healthier food choices should also be considered for a more supportive and successful work environment.
Jebb spoke about the need for individuals to make some effort and better decisions about the food they are eating.

She went on to say: "If nobody brought in cakes into the office, I would not eat cakes in the day, but because people do bring cakes in, I eat them. Now, OK, I have made a choice, but people were making a choice to go into a smoky pub."
Although she was undoubtedly vocal about her opinion, it's also noteworthy that she wasn't speaking on behalf of the food regulatory agency where she works. This was made clear both by Prof. Jebb and the agency.

The news is coming in on the heels of reports that up to 26% of adults are now obese in England. In the United States, the number is closer to 42%.
Although she may have difficulty getting people on board with her no-cake policy, it is certainly worth considering.
