A video captured the moment and shows competitors racing the home stretch of a 4X200 meter relay race. Athlete Gracie Laney is taking the lead, and as she approaches the finish line the crowd erupts - but it's not for her. It's for the dog that unexpectedly joined the race behind her.
The dog, Holly, raced past student-athletes and began gaining ground on Laney. In the end, she pushed ahead of the runner and won the relay race, nearly tripping Laney in the process.

In an interview with the Salt Lake Tribune, Laney recalled the moment she felt the dog gaining on her.
She said, "I'd say probably about the 50-meters [mark], I could feel something coming on me, and I thought it was a person. I thought it was the runner. And then I kind of realized that it was really small."

It must've been quite a shock to realize it wasn't a runner at all, but a dog!
