Scorched Maui Cat Has A Long Road To Recovery And Needs Your Help

He was found on Shaw Street near the Lahaina Aquatic Center in horrible shape. He has severe burns on his entire body, face, and paws.
"We can see that he made his best efforts escaping the fires. His entire coat scorched from the flames and covered with the smell of thick smoke. All of his paw pads burned, his mouth swollen and painful. He was dehydrated and lifeless," shared MHS.
Photo: Maui Humane SocietyThey decided to name the sweet ginger cat "Alani", which means the color orange in Hawaiian. He does not have a microchip or any other form of identification on him.
The friendly feline is getting daily foot soaks to treat his paws and medications to treat his burns and ease the pain. He is being a complete gentleman, eating "like a champ ", and soaking up all the attention. "He purrs with very gentle pats," stated the shelter.
They said these are all good signs that he is slowly starting to feel better, but it will be a long road to recovery for Alani.
Photo: Maui Humane SocietyThe shelter reached out to Greater Good Charities' Emergency Animal Medical fund for help with his medical expenses and ongoing care. He is just one of many who need emergency care and months of rehabilitation and ongoing treatment.

"Alani is one of the victims of the tragic fires who has stepped foot into Maui Humane Society, we anticipate to receive more and more each day. An estimated 3,000 animals are believed to be displaced. Many of them most likely needing intense medical care, like Alani," posted MHS.
The shelter is focusing on the health and well-being of each animal that comes through their doors and hopes to reunite them all with their families.
They wanted to send a message to Alani's family if they are looking for him, "If Alani's owners are out there, we want them to know that he is safe and recovering. We are doing the best we can to help him heal and make him comfortable."
