The outlet reported that the smoke was coming from the Valley River Inn, a hotel where Illinois native Stacy Barkley, 62, was staying while visiting family.
As Spike, a grandfather of 16, approached the hotel, he saw flames covering the second floor of the building and heard a cry for that.

That cry was coming from Barkley who was trapped on the second floor near the fire. Rather than waiting for first responders to arrive, Spike took it upon himself to help Barkley and began encouraging her to jump from the second story.
You can hear in footage shared by Inside Edition that Spike tells the senior woman to jump to him and he'll break her fall.

The woman was terrified, but thanks to Spike's encouragement, she dangled from the railing of her balcony and let go. She fell onto Spike, who broke her fall as he promised.
After rescuing the woman, Spike waited until fire crews arrived and then continued on his run. The Eugene Springfield Fire shared on Facebook that no injuries were reported due to the fire.
Barkley considers Spike a hero and said that he saved her life.
