Mischievous Kitten Warms Heart of New Human Whose Prior Cat Was Stolen
Guest Contributor
A few years ago, after moving back to my parents' home, my cat was stolen. I was told my aunt was working with a cat rescue charity; she'd set up a pen in her home where the cats could play and sleep, and she was there to take care of their needs. My parents agreed that I could get another cat to try to cheer me up.

So I went to my aunt's house to see what she had. I crouched by the pen and put my hand in to pet one of the kittens when a tubby little tabby boy waddled over and put his front paws onto my palm to be picked up.
He squeaked at me and I fell in love instantly. I spent a good few hours getting to know this little boy who'd chosen me for a cuddle. He'd snuggle against my shoulder, purr and squeak his little baby meow at me. He was lovely. My aunt told me I could think about it and we went home.
Only two hours later, we called her and she dropped him off. I set up a pen in my room with toys, a litter tray, a water bowl and food. I snuggled him for a while, letting the other pets in the house get used to him. When we went to bed, I put him into his little pen and got into bed... only to be awoken multiple times by his attempts at destroying the barrier separating us.
After a few days, I was still unsure what to name him, but his mischievous personality lead to only one answer: Alvin, as in Alvin and the Chipmunks. He gets along with the four dogs - he's part of the pack - and two 19-year old cats, as well as the tiny cat who's his age.

For a rescue kitten, he's grown to about five kilograms and he's bigger than two of our dogs! But he's a mommy's boy and gives the best cuddles. (And there's always the call of "ALVIIIIN!" through the house when he's misbehaving - which is always.)
