A new bill would create stricter standards for dog chaining in New York. Take action!
Prolonged dog tethering can cause serious health concerns for dogs. Being chained to a solitary object restricts a dog's ability to move around and can cause extreme discomfort. In addition, keeping a pet chained for a long period of time is dangerous if it's left without necessities such as food or water.
A bill in New York (AB 6046), if passed, would limit the time a dog is allowed to be chained to six hours per day. It would also ensure that dogs get at least 15 feet of leash to move around, and the tether must be attached in a non-strangulatory way. This bill is especially significant in New York, where freezing temperatures and scalding humidity can take a severe toll on a canine.
**Please sign the petition and encourage New York senators to push this bill out of committee and on to the Senate and House floors.**
