Gestational Diabetes affects hundreds of thousands of mothers and babies per year. Take action!
Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that affects hundreds of thousands of pregnant American women each year. Gestational diabetes occurs during pregnancy, and happens to women who have never had a prior history of diabetes. There is no specific cause that has been identified in concurrence with the contraction of this disease, but it can have a lasting effect on the mother and her baby. For example the mother risks sustaining the disease even after pregnancy, and the child will be at higher risk for obesity and diabetes in his life.
The Gestational Diabetes Act (H.R. 5354) would provide funding for research on gestational diabetes with the goal of obtaining a better understanding of the disease. H.R. 5354 has passed the House, but remains to be voted upon in the Senate. **Sign the petition urging the Senate to protect moms and babies by passing this critical legislation.**
