Mercury poisoning and pollution have become a very real threat to our environment and our health. Every year, coal and chlorine plants release harmful amounts of mercury into lakes, streams, and rivers. The mercury then ends up in our oceans, where it's ingested by fish and other wildlife.

Exposure to mercury can cause serious health problems for young children and pregnant women. If mercury is ingested, it can cause permanent brain damage and other grave physical complications.

We need to require energy plants to invest in systems and technology that would not depend upon the use of mercury. **Sign the petition asking the EPA to support legislation prohibiting the use of mercury in the products we consume as well as during the processes of making them.**
