2017

Donors like you have helped the program deliver seeds to 16 different vulnerable areas in Cape Town, South Africa. 26-year-old Sakhumzi was one of the recipients. Sakhuzi was battling to find employment and no one in his family was working so he chose to use an open space in his home to plant: "I am able to put food on the table through the profit that I make from the garden and I produce fresh vegetables now" — Sakhuzi.

2016

In poor communities of Cape Town, South Africa, 251 new home gardeners signed up for the first cycle of training in 2016, with 150 further gardeners joining the program in June. Bulelwa Mathanda was one of these people. Following the death of her husband, desperate to find work, Bulelwa moved to the Mahkaza informal settlement in Cape Town with her four children in 2014. Her mother told her about the home food gardening workshops that were taking place in Makhaza and it is here that she rediscovered her love of plants. "I love to plant. I love to grow veggies because I don’t have enough money to buy veggies”. -Bulelwa Mathanda
