Help Women in Sierra Leone Combat Breast Cancer
SKU: SKU: SK-105380
Help women diagnosed with breast cancer in Sierra Leone get the care and medical attention they need.
Breast cancer is a leading cause of death for women in Sierra Leone. Because of the stigma associated with cancer, many women are reluctant to seek help. And sadly, many women cannot afford treatment once they have been diagnosed.
The Thinking Pink Breast Cancer Foundation, located in Freetown, Sierra Leone, provides support, financial assistance and advocacy for breast cancer patients. Foundation staff work closely with health professionals to insure that patients receive the best care possible. The foundation was created to assist patients through the course of the journey - from diagnosis to post-care, because no one should fight this battle alone.
You can help. Just $5.00 helps support a breast cancer patient in Sierra Leone.
Report from the Field
August 2017
YOUR donations have helped to pay for a one month supply of medication for women like Fatmata (pictured to the right). Fatmata was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy with funds gathered from her sympathetic neighbors in Sierra Leone. With funds from Greater Good, Develop Africa was able to purchase one month of post-mastectomy drugs for Fatmata. Fatmata is very grateful for these donations and had this to say: "I wish to thank GreaterGood for their good works towards the Women of Sierra Leone; I received my one month supply of Tamoxifen which I cannot afford. As a widow I cannot afford to feed myself and my three children let alone to buy my own medication."
