Provide support and supplies to individuals living with diabetes in Sierra Leone.
According to the International Diabetes Federation, in 2012, 3.07% of the population of Sierra Leone had Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. These numbers are on the rise and education and supplies are needed in Sierra Leone to try to decrease the prevalence. Access to health care in Sierra Leone is minimal and therefore individuals typically develop complications from diabetes due to late diagnosis and lack of knowledge about diabetes.
Develop Africa is working to raise awareness and promote diabetes health in Sierra Leone by providing information about the disease, healthy eating tips and blood glucose meters. This helps improve the quality of life for Sierra Leoneans suffering from or affected by diabetes. The program will also help educate the people of Sierra Leone about prevention tips in regards to diet and exercise.
