From Her Voice, For Her Education - Fania

Fania attends Matènwa Community Learning Center in Matènwa, Haiti. Girls' Voices, GreaterGood.org's newest signature program, is working with Friends of Matènwa to send Fania and her classmates to school!

Fania was born in La Gonave, Haiti and was raised in the community of Nan Sauveur. She's been a student at Matenwa Community Learning Center. for 13 years and says one of the biggest challenges of going to school is affording the materials. Fania enjoys studying, spending time with friends, and debating with her friends and family about the current events and issues in her community, "When I go to school, I learn how to prepare for a good future. I receive a good education that helps make me a better person. I see a lot of good role models so I have a better idea of what my future could look like. I hope at the very least it is better than the lives of my parents". - Fania Bijoux . Unfortunately, Fania cannot financially meet the requirements of the school and needs money for fees.

During Girls’ Voices, Fania learned media skills to tell her story.

Girls' Voices is a Signature Program of GreaterGood.org intended to raise funds for girls' secondary education through media made by girls. Our goal is for girls around the world to connect to their voice, their dreams for their education, and use the power of digital media to create images, stories, and visual metaphors that can communicate their strength and potential to the world. The intention of this project is to empower girls to utilize videography to raise scholarship funds to remove financial barriers to completing secondary education.

Matènwa Community Learning Center School (MCLC) is the first ever institution providing secondary education on the island of La Gonâve, Haiti. MCLC is the country's only recognized model school. USAID and the Haitian Ministry of Education have publicly acknowledged the high quality of teaching at MCLC. Teachers who work at the school have undergone rigorous training to ensure students have the safest and best possible learning experience. Not only do students receive a quality education, they receive a hot breakfast every morning.
