We need YOUR help to clean up the Tohono O'odham Reservation, a region roughly the size of Connecticut!
Americans throw away 35 billion plastic water bottles every year, enough to circle the earth four times. The Tohono O'odham Nation in Southern Arizona has a particularly severe plastic trash problem with few village dumpsters, trash is discarded in abundance.
Sponsor a bottle brick today to clean up a trash bag's worth of paper and plastic waste from this sacred land.
The residents of the Tohono O'odham Nation are embarking on a unique project to turn their trash into a beautiful earthbench. Help us make this project a reality! By supporting this project, you will help save 150 plastic bottles and approximately 75 lbs of trash that would otherwise end up in our landfills and oceans.
It costs just $10 to sponsor one bottle brick, roughly the size of a full trash bag. It's going to take a $1,500 investment to complete this unique project. It's an investment that will pay dividends by protecting our planet's treasures from the adverse effects of plastic waste.
About NAAF
The Native American Advancement Foundation (NAAF)'s mission is to assist and promote research-based, community-driven, sustainable development throughout the Tohono O'odham Nation. NAAF's members and volunteers are uniquely qualified to assist their community as they have a personal understanding of the long-term needs and desires of the people of the District and the Nation at large.
About POEM
The Peace On Earthbench Movement (POEM) empowers youth and community members to clean up the environment, repurpose their trash into a building material, learn natural building techniques, and then create a communal gathering area a Peace on Earthbench where they can share music, stories, and life. The Earthbench effectively seals trash from entering the worlds oceans and rivers while serving a clear artistic, educational, and social function. The larger vision is to eventually build 1000 bottle brick benches for peace around the world.
