We need your help to support the animal cruelty victims rescued in New Mexico!
American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) is assisting with the removal of nearly 120 animals from an animal "sanctuary" in Clayton, NM. Upon arrival, responders discovered animals living in deplorable conditions. Many are suffering from medical issues, injuries, and neglect. Dozens of dogs were running loose through the property and some were in ramshackle kennels with little or no protection from extreme heat and wind. Cats were confined to rooms inside the home, including the basement where they were found living with dirty litter boxes and dead mice.
Rescued animals are being transported to a temporary shelter operated by the ASPCA. The care facility is in urgent need of your help so these animals receive critical veterinary care and behavioral enrichment by ASPCA medical and behavior experts. The animals will be cared for at the temporary shelter until custody is determined by the court. The ASPCA is working closely with local law enforcement and prosecutors to ensure the best outcomes for these animals. Charges are pending once evidence is submitted and approved by the District Attorney's Office.
The ASPCA's mission is "to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States." Through direct animal care and rescue and the support of others working to help animals, we strive to stop unnecessary euthanasia in shelters by reducing intake and increasing live release rates, to keep pets safe, healthy and in caring homes, and to rescue animals from harm's way.
